Linocut: Level 1

Printmaking is focused on process, and it gives us the ability to create many copies of an original work, making this a profitable and multi-dimensional art form.
Shaqe will address composition, design, texture, line, shape, color, carving, transferring an image, and printing without a press. Witnin this class you will create several prints using different kinds of linocut. In the last linocut you will create a three-process colored print. A knowledge of the materials in printmaking is essential, and this will be explored and taught.
“I think I am really going to enjoy this class and I am already starting to get more out of it than I realized...things that will help in other areas of my art. I really appreciate how willing Shaqe is to share her own process and experiences. I love that some of her art is there in the studio so she can actually show you what she is talking about.” -- excerpt from a blog about Took’s first day in the linocut class. The class will involve two approaches: first: You will create a woodcut that will involve a more spontaneous understanding of the wood, that will be used as a basis of developing technique. The second approach will involve taking a drawing and transfering the drawing to wood. You’ll gain an essential knowledge of the materials of printmaking as you explore the materials and techniques.
