Monthly / Weekly Classes
Meeting Regularly
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(24-hour notice required to RSVP or cancel)
1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, 7-8:30pm (call 734-420-0775 for availability)
$17 per session (includes supplies), discounted passes available, please inquire
This is a twice-monthly drop-in class where experimentation with materials, styles, concepts, approaches, and interactions create an exciting and creative atmosphere. This class opens a new vehicle of expression for both the seasoned artist and the amateur, through individual and group work. The drop-in nature of the class allows the artist to come when she or he needs inspiration, or perhaps to develop a new direction.
Some of these directed classes include working on a specific technique such as oil painting or pencil techniques, or developing special understanding by working with design. Another class could include working on abstraction through tracing found objects, or using interactive games that help you break out of working-alone mode. We might have a class where we work with shape and explore it realistically or abstractly. Or we might use an interdisciplinary approach where you listen to a poem and then interpret it through drawing. The ideas are endless, and Shaqe the teaching artist is innovative in offering classes that meet a wide range of interests as well as targeting individual interests, thus exposing you to many routes and entry points to creating while making this accessible for all people.

Evening of Independent Study
(24 hour notice required to RSVP or cancel)
2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, 6-9pm (call 734-420-0775 for availability)
$25 per class (basic supplies are available, but bring supplies necessary for your specific work)
Discounted passes available, please inquire
The intention of this twice-monthly class is to allow for individual development and guidance with your current artwork or inspired idea. This class is perfect for people who have artwork in any medium that they are currently working on or want to work on, and who want input and direction. Another reason for attending this class is that working alone can be daunting, but being in a class atmosphere while “doing your own thing” can be a solution, while you also get personal attention. Shaqe is here to offer instruction and coaching on your art work and your creative process.

This weekly class focuses on a traditional subject matter in painting, by alternating week by week with a different focus in a monthly cycle. This is perfect for the beginner or the intermediate and those who wants to learn realism. Each class starts with a different photograph every week for the basis of the class that everyone will be painting. The instructor takes you step-by-step through the painting of the image. She focuses on composition, color mixing, application of paint, perspective, contrast and developing the ability to deconstruct a realistic image in order to make a fine work of art. “If you are struggling with seeing an image and painting it realistically, this is a class for you.” -- Shaqe

Marathon PaintingTM
(24-hour notice required to RSVP or cancel)
2nd Friday of each month, 6-10pm, and 4th Friday of each month, 10am-2pm (bring lunch if necessary)
(call 734-420-0775 for availability)
$40 per session (includes basic supplies)
Many times artists don’t stay within the creative process long enough to come up with some amazing techniques, flow, and ideas. This is a twice-monthly class that allows you to be compulsive and obsessive for 4 hours of continuous painting. However, Shaqe leads you through this process, so don’t think it’s dependent on you to create the ideas. It really is a magical process that will open up for you in this short amount of time what may appear daunting at first glance. To begin this process of unlocking your potential, we’ll begin by using acrylics and basic paper in a process that draws out your inner muse. After attending your first Marathon painting class you may bring your own acrylics and canvas. Please speak with Shaqe the teaching artist about the specifics.

3rd Friday of the month, 7-10pm
$45 per participant for up to 3 hours
(All art supplies provided; participants bring their own food and refreshments; a little wine is OK!)
Shaqe takes you through a step-by-step process of painting, focusing on replicating a famous painting. This method is based on Betty Edwards’s theory that anyone can draw or paint if you follow a step-by-step method. Everyone comes out of the party with a similar painting and a similar experience, and a finished work to hang on your wall. This is mainly for participants without art-making experience -- or individuals with art experience who want to participate with a group of people and have a great time! Inquire about the painting that will be re-created, or suggest one for consideration.

Monthly Potluck --- NEW
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Raw Vegan Potluck Connection -- introduce more healthy food into your life
4th Friday of the month, 7-9pm, call to reserve your spot and let Shaqe know what you will be bringing: 734-420-0775
Free, please bring a raw vegan dish to pass. If unsure what to bring talk to Shaqe: imshacha@me.com
Come out once a month and partake in a potluck where food and creativity are combined. There are statistics that support the idea that if you include more raw fruits and vegetables in your diet you can increase longevity and brain power. You can also increase your creativity power as well. There will be discussions about creating and maintaining a healthy way of eating.
Shaqe is predominately a raw foodist; here she’s taking her love of healthy food and bringing it into the gallery.
