Take the Challenge of Foot Art: Participate
"Foot Art" is not just an art show, nor is it a stunt to get attention. Shaqe says the practice of using an alternative limb to create art can open up creative paths, and stimulate the production of "normal" art. So here's her challenge: "I dare everyone to try making some foot art, and then photograph it and send me the photo."
"I've been working with using the arts to empower people with disabilities for the last several years. This project came to me with them in the back of my mind. I was very aware that there are artists that have to work with their feet or mouth (they have no choice). I feel by doing this project it's a movement toward creating a more inclusive society. As a creativity coach I can assure you that there's bountiful creativity that can emerge from the use of our other limbs. (Here is a link to the Mouth Foot Painting Artists: http://www.mfpausa.com/ )...
"So my intent is to start a foot revolution! My challenge to you is to go ahead and try drawing or painting with your foot and then have someone photograph you and then send it to me with permission to use it for publicity. This is open to all people of all ages."
Instruction: This might be new to anyone, let alone an artist, so here's some instructions. Take a pencil or fine sharpie marker. Take off your shoes and socks. If you are right-handed you'll draw with your right foot, and if you are left handed, your left foot, giving you more control with your dominant side. Put the drawing tool between your big toe and second toe. (Please sit in a comfortable chair, but not too comfortable!) Put a piece of paper of at least 8.5 x 11" on the ground in front of you. For non-practicing artists, I suggest you begin with drawing shapes; so make a circle, square, triangle, etc. For artists, you can begin with shapes but then start drawing something you see.
Know that through this process you'll soon find yourself laughing. Have fun with it and send me a photo of you and your drawing.
